Joey Flickinger was born in Robinson, Illinois, and raised on a small farm where hard work, open land, and long days shaped his early years. He wasn’t the most popular kid in school, and he never showed much interest in books or writing during his childhood. His passions were simpler — horseback riding, wrestling, and spending weekends outdoors.
Because his family moved often, Joey learned early how to adapt. Wrestling became one outlet. Imagination became another.
It wasn’t until after school that he discovered something that would quietly change his life: the realization that books weren’t just stories — they were entire worlds. Worlds people built from nothing. Worlds you could step into, live in, and even escape to when real life felt uncertain.
For someone who had moved from place to place, creating characters and building fictional worlds became more than a hobby — it became freedom. Writing gave him stability when life felt temporary. It gave him control when circumstances shifted. And eventually, it gave him purpose.
Today, Joey writes the kinds of stories he once needed — immersive worlds filled with characters who struggle, adapt, and fight to find their place.
